The Commission of Foreign Relations and National Defense of the Chamber of the Deputies will resume the discussion about the agreement that trebles the values paid by Brazil for the energy re-bought from Paraguay. This agreement was secured by ex-president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and by President Fernando Lugo.

Deputy Carlos Alberto Leréia (party: PSDB, state of Goiás), who was elected president of the collegiate, promised to put the theme in the agenda of the Commission so that the society knows the impact and the consequences of this bilateral agreement.

The Reversal Notes should have been passed last year, but the Brazilian government preferred to postpone the discussion to prevent distress to the then candidate Dilma Rousseff.

According to the agreement, Brazil will pay US$ 240 millions more per year for the Paraguayan excess.

At present, the country pays US$ 120 millions for the energy not used by the neighbor country. With the approval of the agreement, Brazil will pay US$ 360 millions.

In the evaluation of Leréia, any change in the Treaty of Itaipu that could harm the country must be treated with transparency. He believes that the Brazilian consumer will pay in the energy tariffs the values added to Paraguay.

“We will have an extensive agenda. This Commission is formed by very experienced politicians, like ex-governors and ex-presidents of the Chamber. Each one will give a contribution and in the end of the year we will have a positive balance for the international questions and the questions of national defense of the country”, he affirmed.

The text that approves the Reversal Notes will be appreciated in April by the Brazilian Representation in the Parliament of the Mercosur. Then, it will pass simultaneously by four commissions of the Chamber before following to the plenary session.

Once the process is concluded, the text follows to the Senate, where it transacts in at least two commissions before going to plenary session to be voted.
