The Union of the South American Nations (UNASUR) will stop being only a political project on March 11, when it will gain legal life with the Uruguayan ratification to the Constitutive Treaty of the bloc.

This Wednesday, the Uruguayan ambassador in Ecuador, Enrique Delgado, handed to Chancellor Ricardo Patiño, the ratifying deposit approved by the National Congress of the country.

According to the article 26 of the same Treaty, the UNASUR comes into force 30 days after the ninth ratification of the document.

With the decision, the UNASUR becomes an international organism and will be able to have its permanent head office, officials and bank accounts.

In April, the Ministers of Foreign Relations of the bloc must meet in the city of Mitad del Mundo, situated north of Quito, where the permanent head office of the UNASUR will be built, to celebrate the legal birth of the entity.

Until then, the bloc also expects to elect the Secretary-general who will substitute Nestor Kirchner, deceased last year.

An extraordinary meeting of the bloc would be carried out this month in Lima to discuss the subject.

The lack of consensus around a name has been making difficult the filling of the post.

Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, Surinam and Venezuela also ratified the Treaty.

Brazil, Colombia and Paraguay face internal resistances and don´t manage to conclude the processing of the agreement in their respective legislative powers.
